FAQs     FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do you follow the play-based curriculum?
Our curriculum is child centered. It involves choices that the kids make. They can chose to do a large group activity, a toy, game, or art activity. We allow large blocks of free choice time which encourage developmental growth in the following areas: affective/social skills, cognitive skills, language and literacy, dramatic play, gross and fine motor skills, creative art and music.

Do you provide a snack for my child?
K-Care does not provide a structured snack time. You are more than welcome to provide a snack for your child. If your child is feeling hungry, we do have grahams or animal crackers we will give them.

Do you provide a lunch for my child?
No, we do not provide lunch. We also do not have the facilities to heat or refrigerate a lunch. If you need to keep it cool, we suggest an ice pack or frozen juice box. If you need to keep it warm, a thermos does just fine. Your child also has the option to buy hot lunch or milk from the school. This can be arranged through the lunch program at Burns Park School.

Does my child have to sleep at rest time?
No, we do not force your child to sleep. Your child can choose to do a quiet activity such as color or read quietly. We do read chapter books to them during rest. Your child must stay on his/her rest mat during this time. This allows those who need to sleep to fall asleep.

Does my child have to participate in the large group activity?
No, your child can choose to do any of the activities provided or make a choice on his/her own.

Does my child spend any time outside?
Yes, your child can choose to go outside. We go outside during all seasons. In the winter, we offer outside choices such as sledding on "Magic Mountain" (in the park), or painting the snow! We also use the playground at the park when we go outside to play. This gives them the opportunity to play away from the kids who are having lunch recess at Burns Park. We also use the park for playing games. We have soccer and playground balls, a cage ball, a parachute and ring toss games.
