CDC's preschool facility, housed in what was originally a neighborhood residence, has a number of specialized spaces - all of which play one or more important roles in our curriculum. Here are photos of our rooms and spaces, sometimes in use, and how we make use of them in our program. Click on images to see a larger version.

In the sunroom teachers plan for a dramatic play/housekeeping center, a tray table for sensory experiences, a shelf with fine motor/math manipulatives, and creative building materials, and a large table on which fine motor, or creative art activities are placed. Activities are generally rotated daily, but the children's interests are taken into account. If children show interest they are allowed and encouraged to extend and expand activities. |

Language development activities are planned for the book room. Books are rotated each week. Teachers rotate puzzles, flannel board activities, board games, and other language-stimulating activities such as a dollhouse, or small animals and blocks. |

| Snack area Snack is another one of the choices offered at CDC. Snack is open for approximately an hour in the morning and again in the afternoon. Children are able to have snack whenever they choose during these times. The snack area also serves as a creative art space when not being used for snack. |

| Big Basement & Outside In the big basement and outside, teachers plan for gross motor, movement, and music activities, unit and large block play. Climbers are set up in the basement, as well as mats for tumbling. Teachers plan activities such as riding tricycles, making a marching band, dancing to music, or having a "gymnastics meet". Our outside play yard is opened every day, weather permitting. |

| Little Basement The little basement is a space for messy art projects, and our science area. Activities are planned in several areas of development including, dramatic play, cognitive, creative art, and fine motor skills. |
