Laura Stidham

Executive Director

Laura has been at CDC since 1995. She began her career as a student teacher in our program and was hired as a teacher upon graduating from EMU with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She then became director of school age programs until March 2003 when she was promoted to executive director. Laura completed her Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from EMU in April 2007.

Mary Anna Dickinson

Director of School Age Programs and Development

Originally from Port Huron, Michigan, Mary Anna came to came to the Ann Arbor area for school; she also met her husband here. She graduated from Eastern Michigan in 2001 with a degree in Elementary Education and received an elementary teaching certificate. Mary Anna was the Program Director at Lawton Kids Club for 9 years before being named Director of School Age Programs and Development.

Sandra Swan

Preschool Director

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Sandra came to the Ann Arbor area for school. She attended college at Eastern Michigan University and graduated with a degree in elementary education. She met her husband at Eastern and stayed in this area. Sandra was an elementary school teacher for two years and a middle school teacher for two years before coming to CDC. Sandra was the Program Director at Burns Park for 6 years before being named the Preschool Director in 2012.

Christopher Clark

Burns Park Program Director

Chirs is from Holland, Ohio. He moved to Ypsilanti in 2012 to attend EMU. Chris previously was the Morning Site Supervisor the past school year. He is excited to be returning back for another fun year at Kids Club. Chris currently is attending Eastern Michigan with the major of Early Childhood Education. In his free time, he enjoys getting down behind the stove creating some amazing meals and delicious treats– following in his dad’s footsteps. As well, he enjoys music, always wanting to dance and groove out. When Chris is not in the kitchen cooking, or dancing, he thoroughly enjoy getting out traveling and seeing what the world has to offer while having his 9 year old Siberian Husky Princess by his side. email:

Michelle Slocum

Lawton Program Director

Michelle has been with CDC since Fall of 2004. She has spent the last 12 years at the Lawton Kids Club program. She attended Eastern Michigan University where she earned a degree in Special Education of Students with Cognitive Impairments. Originally from the tiny town of Manchester, she is happy to have a new home and family here at CDC. When not at work, Michelle loves to read almost anything, spend time outdoors geocaching with her dog Brady, and just enjoying all that our great state of Michigan has to offer. email:

Katie Davison

Lawton Program Director

Katie joined our team in September 2011 and the teaching staff in June. She graduated from Eastern Michigan University in December of 2011 after completing her student teaching at CDC. She has a degree in Elementary Education with an Early Childhood and Reading endorsement. Katie studied early childhood for a semester in England. She loves to dance and sing at CDC! Jessi Ankwatsa

Burns Park Program Director

Jessi previously worked at Burns Park Kids Club from 2007-2011 while attending Eastern Michigan University. After graduating with her bachelor’s degree in special education, she moved to Lexington, Kentucky where she taught in a middle school resource room. She also worked as a special education teacher at a residential facility where she worked with boys in grades K-12. Ultimately she and her husband decided to move back to this area to be nearer our families as we raise our son, Simion (2). Jessi is excited that being back in this area means that she also has the opportunity to rejoin the Community Day Care family as the afternoon program director at Burns Park Elementary! e-mail: jessi@communitydaycareinc,org


Dionne Gideon


Dionne started working at CDC in the Fall of 2012. She graduated from Wayne State and lives in Southfield. Dionne enjoys writing, watching sports and spending time with her grandchildren. email:

Diana Allen


Diana joined the CDC staff in August 2007 after graduation from Eastern Michigan University with a degree in Elementary Education. Diana has worked with our pre-kindergarten children since she joined the CDC family. When not at school, Diana enjoys spending time with her husband, son, and dog. Beth Meza


Beth received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan and worked with us for 3 years as the full time aide. After taking a sabbatical, she graduated from Medaille College with her Masters degree in Elementary Education. She has been a teacher at CDC since 2010. When not at school, Beth enjoys spending time with her husband, two daughters, and her son. Beth is currently teaching our two and three year olds. e-mail:

Katie Horswill-Deuter


Katie and her husband Andrew moved to Ann Arbor from Madison, WI in 2012 when they were expecting their first child. As a teacher, Katie began researching preschools right away and was thrilled to find such a high quality program with top notch staff right in her own neighborhood. Her son Abram is in his second year at CDC and her daughter Eleanor is eager to attend as soon as she turns 2 1/2. Katie holds a bachelor’s degree in Child Development and a teaching license in Special Education and has taught both preschool and elementary school. She looks forward to using her background in education to help CDC continue to thrive in carrying out its mission to support children and families in the community. e-mail:

Megan Thompson


Megan joined our team in January of 2012. She has a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with an Early Childhood endorsement. Megan completed her student teaching at CDC with Diana. She is currently attending graduate school to obtain her master’s degree in Early Childhood Education. One of her favorite aspects of teaching is being a part of the children’s excitement to learn. Megan is the first to admit she has a horrible singing voice, but she is proud of it! In her free time, she likes watching movies, reading, golfing, and spending time with her family, friends, and her pet bird “Bogey the cockatiel” (who visits CDC a couple times every summer)!e-mail:

Alyssa McNally


Alyssa began working at CDC in the summer of 2012, and is now the teacher of our youngest group. Alyssa completed bachelor’s degrees in Music Education and Viola Performance at the Crane School of Music in New York, and has also taken graduate level coursework in early childhood education. Outside of CDC Alyssa maintains a private Suzuki violin studio and plays with the Ypsilanti Symphony Orchestra and a Baroque Music Ensemble. Becca Carver

Teacher’s Assistant/Afternoon Teacher

Becca began working at CDC in the fall of 2013. Becca has an associates degree from Washtenaw Community College in Liberal Arts with a focus on elementary education. She works as a teacher’s assistant as well as a Kids Club Activity

Elayna Hickson

Elayna joined the preschool team in 2012. She recently received her associates degree in childhood development from WCC, and will continue studying Early Childhood at EMU. When Elayna isn’t working she loves to exercise and play soccer. She also enjoys coming to the preschool everyday so she can learn and play with children. email:
